Michael "Scoogie" Snyder
My
name is Michael "Scoogie" Snyder.
I did my first triathlon in 1994 when I entered the Granite Man
Triathlon in Wolfeboro, N. H. with my brother and best friend David
Snyder. We lost David in December of 1998 in an automobile accident. I
was living in San Francisco at the time, and shortly thereafter left
my teaching position and moved back East to be closer to my parents.
Needless to say it was the most difficult time in my life. In August
1999, I signed up for the Brigantine Island Triathlon in his memory,
as he loved to do that race every year. I enjoyed the race so
much that I signed up for two more races the following year, and
I have been hooked
ever since!
I love the training that goes hand-in-hand with doing well in triathlons. I don't mind the 'suffer factor' that one must endure... and actually, I enjoy it quite a bit. More importantly than any other factor though, is how much I enjoy the camaraderie as well as the friendships that I have made from participating in triathlons. My wife, Marci, my tried and true triathlon sherpa, in conjunction with my good friend Ryan Humes, a bad-ass triathlete in his own right, had everything to do with designing and making this website for me. Marci gave me the nickname "Scoogie" about one month after we met. I used it when describing a little eye-boogie on a baby, and she just liked the way the word sounded... somehow it just stuck... no pun intended :-). According to the Urban Dictionary... The meaning of "Scoogie": Scoogie can be a noun, or a verb. Scoogie means you love someone, or it can be what you call someone you love :-).
